FAQ

    • Q: Where are you located?
    • A: 321 N Mall Dr  Suite L102,  St George, UT 84790.

  • Q: How much does therapy cost?
  • A: Fees are $125.00 per 50 minute session, if you pay at the time of service. If you are billed then the fee goes up to my full rate of $150.00. Group therapy is 175.00 per month which involves 4 weeks of 2 hours each week, for a 6 month commitment.

  • Q: Are the fees the same if I’m alone or if I bring in 5 members of my family?
  • A: Yes the rates are based on time, not number of people in the room, or even the nature of the issue being addressed.
  • Q: How long does therapy take?
  • A:   That depends on the individual, the issues that are being dealt with, and how willing they are to do the homework. Time in therapy can range from a few weeks to a number of years. In the ground breaking book “A General Theory of Love”, the authors suggest that it usually takes between 3-5 years to “rewire” the physiology to reflect the new thoughts, so you might grasp concepts quickly, but unless there is good follow through, with a lot of practice in new thoughts and behaviors, you will most likely be frustrated with what you know, but are unable to do on a consistent basis.
My preference is to work with people over a longer period of time, less frequently, to ensure some level of integration. So you may start doing weekly sessions for a month or two, then reduce to every 2 or 3 weeks, next you might meet every 6 weeks, etc. This seems to work really well for most clients.
  • Q: What if I don’t want to read or do homework recommendations? Does that mean my therapy won’t work?
  • A: Not at all, but it may mean that your progress will go more slowly than if you do some consistent homework or practice the new skills.
  • Q: Do you prescribe medication?
  • A: No, only qualified medical personnel can prescribe, which includes psychiatrists.
  • Q: Can I bring a friend with me for my sessions?
  • A: Because the sessions are in some ways directed by your needs, of course you may bring a friend, if you think that can be helpful.
  • Q: Do you do any testing?
  • A: Yes. I often will suggest that you take tests, surveys or personality inventories if I think it can be clarifying and helpful in setting and reaching your goals.
  • Q: What is your group therapy?
  • A: Group therapy is a form of counseling where we meet together with 12-16 other individuals. The group that I facilitate meets once per week for 2 hours and requires a 6 moth commitment. During that time the same individuals meet and work helping each other with strategies, suggestions and understanding. It is a very useful form of therapy that can often accomplish amazing breakthroughs.
  • Q: What does it mean that you are a “Marriage and Family Therapist”?
  • A: Marriage and Family therapists are trained specifically to deal with interaction between couples and family members. We focus on working together as a coequal team with you, rather than seeing you as a patient who needs to be fixed. That’s why we refer to the people who seek our services as “clients” not “patients”. We specialize in relationship quality.
  • Q: How long does it take to be a trained Marriage and Family Therapist?
  • A: It varies from program to program, but usually an MFT has an undergraduate degree, a graduate degree and then a 3-5 year internship. So average time to a full clinical license is approximately 9-11 years.
